Shipping a Car Between New York and Florida

ship a car from ny to fl

Auto shipping from New York to Florida and back is one of the most heavily trafficked auto transport routes. The primary reason for this is the bi-annual snowbird migration from NY to FL. Snowbirds are those lucky folks who head South for the winter to avoid the cold weather, and then return North once spring has sprung.

Aside from summer, the beginning and end of the “snowbird season” are the busiest car shipping times of the year on the East Coast. The season begins as soon as the weather starts getting cooler in New York, usually around the beginning to middle of October, and ends around late March/early April when New Yorkers leave Florida to head back up to New York.

You might be wondering why you’d ship a car from New York to Florida when you could just drive yourself. Depending on where you’re coming from in New York and where you’re going to in Florida, the distance can be anywhere from 1,100 to 1,400 miles. You’re looking at a 20 to 22 hour drive! It can quickly become an exhausting (and expensive) endeavor.

At the end of the day, most snowbirds over the years realized shipping their cars from New York to Florida saves them time, money, and unnecessary wear and tear on their vehicles. They also know it’s much safer to ship their car than it is to drive 1,100+ miles.

Whether you’re a snowbird or not and you need to get a car from New York to Florida or from Florida to New York, we have provided answers here to the most common questions we get about shipping cars on this route.

If the driver needs to head further South in Florida on the Atlantic side, he’ll continue South on Interstate 95 right to Daytona Beach, Fort Lauderdale, and Miami. A little to the West, Interstate 4 joins up with I-95 to take the driver to Orlando, Tampa, St. Petersburg, and Clearwater.

If the driver needs to go further South on the Gulf side of Florida to places such as Sarasota, Fort Myers, and Naples there are a couple routes he’ll take. He’ll either head South on I-75 from the Tampa area, or he may take I-95 into Florida, head West on I-10 to Lake City, FL and then head South on I-75.
