We ship cars from Florida to Pennsylvania all year long. This is another common snowbird route for us. Other similar snowbird routes we do regularly include FL to NY, FL to NJ, and FL to OH. If you’re not familiar with the term, snowbird, it refers to those people who have their primary residence in northern states, but they move to southern states, particularly Florida, for the winter. They essentially migrate south for the winter as a "snowbird" would do.
When winter comes to an end, they head back north. This move back north begins in late March or early April. Shipping a car from Florida to Pennsylvania during this time is the most expensive time of the year to do so. The reason is because of the high demand for car shipments going from Florida to Pennsylvania to other states in the north.
The cheapest time of the year to ship a car from Florida to Pennsylvania is in late October and early November when the majority of the auto transports are going the opposite direction (PA to FL) as the snowbirds head south. The cost to ship a car from Florida to Pennsylvania during this time can be significantly lower than any other time of the year!
The distance from Florida to Pennsylvania is roughly 1,000 miles. A car carrier can travel that route in 2-3 days depending on the weather and the driver’s schedule. If a car carrier picks your car up on a Monday in Orlando, FL, for example, he’ll have it delivered to you in Philadelphia, PA on Wednesday or Thursday barring no delays along the way. It’s a relatively quick auto transport!

We do a lot of transports to and from Florida, particularly snowbird transports between Florida and New York. There are four areas of Florida that we primarily ship to and from. Those areas include Central Florida, Southeast Florida, Southwest Florida, and the panhandle. The fifth area that we do transports for, but not nearly as often, is the Florida Keys.
The most popular shipping hub for auto transports in and out of Florida is Miami in Southeast Florida. Other popular cities in the area include West Palm Beach, Boca Raton, and Fort Lauderdale. Any transports to or from Southeast Florida, particularly Miami, we can get done pretty quickly, but of course these cities are pretty far south in Florida so these transports will be more expensive than say Jacksonville which is in far northern Florida.
Orlando and Jacksonville are other popular cities to ship to or from in Florida as there are a lot of carriers serving these locations.
The next most popular cities to ship to or from in Florida are the Gulf Coast cities in Central Florida that include Tampa, Clearwater, and St. Petersburg (in that order), and then the cities of Southwest Florida that include Fort Myers, Cape Coral, Naples, and Marco Island. Again, keep in mind that the further south you go down into Florida, the more your transport will be so Naples will be more expensive than Tampa, for example.
The third best option is the Florida panhandle. The main cities in the panhandle include Tallahassee, Panama City, Fort Walton Beach, and Pensacola. Carriers tend to shy away from the panhandle because those cities aren’t along any major trucking corridors. The exception, however, is if you are shipping to the panhandle cities from California or Texas. Carriers don’t mind hitting the panhandle cities then because they are along their route as they head into Florida from California or Texas.
The most challenging area to ship to or from Florida is the Florida Keys. While we can certainly do these transports, we rarely do them as so few people are going to or from the Keys with their vehicles. Shipping to or from any of the cities along the Keys (Key Largo, Marathon, Key West) will be your most expensive transport options in Florida. You can save a lot of money shipping to or from the Keys by meeting the carrier in Miami instead!
One other interesting note about carriers that do Florida auto transports, they rarely serve both coasts of Florida with the same truck load. A carrier will either do all his transports along either the west or east coast on one trip, and then the other coast on another trip. He will rarely pick up and deliver vehicles on both coasts on the same trip. That means if your vehicle is being picked up or delivered in Miami, for example, that carrier will be traveling along the east coast of Florida with his current load of vehicles.
As a door-to-door auto transporter, we can ship to and from any location in Florida. It doesn’t matter if you’re shipping to or from Key Largo or Jacksonville or anywhere in between, we can handle it! We do our fair share of Pennsylvania auto transports. There are some ideal car shipping locations in the state and there are some less-than-ideal locations. Let’s look at the best car shipping locations in Pennsylvania first.
Without question, Philadelphia and the surrounding suburbs is the best car shipping location in Pennsylvania. With a metro population over 6.2 million people, and conveniently served by three interstates (I-476, I-76, and I-95), it is an ideal location for a car carrier to ship cars to or from. Philadelphia also has proximity to some solid New Jersey locations just across the Delaware River so that adds to its allure for car carriers as well.
The next best car shipping location in Pennsylvania is Allentown, which is located about 64 miles north of Pennsylvania. Allentown is another decent sized city with a metro area population of around 865,000 people. It’s also served by a couple key interstates, I-476 and I-78. Whenever you have a decent size metropolitan area with a couple interstates passing through it, you’re going to have plenty of car carriers to choose from.
Another good car shipping location is Scranton, located further north of Allentown. The population of the Scranton metro area is around 562,000 people and is served by multiple interstates as well. Those interstates include I-81, I-476, and I-380.
Now let’s look at the more challenging locations to ship cars to or from Pennsylvania. Believe it or not, Pittsburg and its suburbs have always been challenging. Even though the Pittsburg metro area is the second largest in the state with almost 2.4 million people, it is a challenging location because of where it is in the state of Pennsylvania. Geographically, Pittsburgh is sort of "in the middle of nowhere" as it isn’t near any common East/West or North/South car shipping routes.
There are interstates to the north and south of the metro area but no interstates that cut through the heart of the city making it an easy destination for car carriers to pass through. Any coast-to-coast cross country move requires car carriers to go out of their way to pick up or deliver any vehicles in the area. And any common North/South or South/North routes car carriers travel are further west or east of where Pittsburgh sits.
