There are a handful of states that are in the heart of our primary car shipping territory and two of those states are Idaho and Utah. We regularly ship cars from Idaho to Utah, and with our home state of Montana bordering Idaho, you’ll see our trucks and our partner carriers’ trucks traveling between Montana, Idaho, and Utah all year long.
A popular car shipping route from Idaho to Utah is the Treasure Valley cites of Boise, Meridian, and Nampa in Idaho to Salt Lake City in Utah. Most car shipments from Idaho to Oregon can be delivered in 1-2 days. Even if you have a car picked up in far north Coeur d’Alene, ID and have it delivered to Salt Lake City, UT, you’re looking at only 688 miles. When you look at the map of Idaho, it should be easy to spot the areas where shipping cars will be the cheapest and quickest. All the cities in southern Idaho along I-84/I-86/I-15 are your best bets. Those cities include the Treasure Valley cities of Nampa, Meridian, and Boise on the west, to Jerome and Twin Falls in the south, to Pocatello and Idaho Falls on the east. This is the primary corridor car carriers travel in Idaho.
Anything outside that primary corridor is going to add cost and time to your transport particularly those towns and cities in and around the Boise National Forest and the Salmon-Challis National Forest. Most of the state highways that service these national forest areas have length restriction laws that make it illegal for longer trucks to travel on them. State highways such as 75, 55, 21, and 3 have such restrictions. When we have auto transports in these areas where longer trailers are being used, we have to have our customers meet drivers on nearby highways that don't have these restrictions.
As you head to northern Idaho, your best shipping location is going to be Coeur d’ Alene. We do a lot of shipping in and out of Coeur d’ Alene for the various car dealers we have relationships with there. It’s right on I-90 which is a very busy trucking corridor so it’s an ideal shipping location. When you get up into the panhandle to cities such as Sandpoint and Bonners Ferry, transports can get challenging so expect increased costs and time to get your transport completed.
The other thing to keep in mind is that sometimes winters can be harsh in Idaho. Cold temperatures and snow can wreak havoc on transports. As a result, be prepared for potential delays during the winter months and sometimes increased costs as well because there may be fewer carriers willing to serve the state during the winter. For example, if you need to ship a car from Texas to Idaho in late January and it's a bad winter, it could take a day or two longer to secure a carrier than it would if you did that same transport in the middle of summer.
We have been shipping cars in and out of Idaho for 20+ years so we have the experience to handle any weather Idaho throws at us. We also have strong relationships with carriers and rollback companies so we can handle transports from remote areas in Idaho to populated areas such as the Boise, Nampa, and Meridian. Utah is a state that is largely covered with mountains and is home to five national parks. It’s also a state where towns and cities are often in the “middle of nowhere” where the nearest town or city can easily be over one hundred miles away. The exception are the cities of Ogden, Salt Lake City, and Provo located in the northern region of the state. They are all located relatively close to each other, and all are right off of interstates (I-15 and I-80) so they are easily accessible. In fact, ninety percent of our auto transports to and from Utah are to one of those three cities. They are the best and easiest locations to ship cars to or from in the state of Utah as carriers are regularly serving those cities.
Unfortunately, any other location in Utah is challenging to ship cars to or from. Very few carriers are regularly passing through and serving other parts of the state. As a result, it can take longer (and take more money) to find a carrier willing to go out of their way to travel to a town or city that is in the middle of nowhere just to pick up or deliver one vehicle.
