Should I ship my car from NY to LA?

People might think that driving their vehicle from New York to LA is cheaper than shipping it, but that’s not true. Driving it yourself means embarking on a cross country trip of more than 2000 miles. This can be a very stressful and exhausting drive. Moreover, it will cost you quite a lot of money as well, especially when you factor in the cost of gas, food, and motels. In many cases, it’s actually less expensive to ship a car than to drive it cross country.

How much does it cost to ship a car from NY to LA?

Shipping a car from New York to Los Angeles, or vice versa, is not cheap. The two factors that contribute the most to car shipping costs are size of the vehicle and distance of the transport. The larger the vehicle, the farther the transport, the more it will cost. And while NY to LA is not Bangor to San Diego, or Key West to Puget Sound, it is still over 2,000 miles.

When you get online quotes, keep those factors in mind. Don’t be fooled by the lowest auto shipping quotes; they can actually end up costing you more in time, money, and stress in the long run. Brokers often look for a carrier to move your car for an even lower price, hoping to maximize their profits. There’s nothing wrong with a company trying to make money, but sometimes a broker can’t find a carrier who is either willing or able to move your vehicle for the lower price.

I’m looking to transport a brand new 2022 Hyundai Tucson from NY (11001) to Baton Rouge, Louisiana. I want to load the car up with stuff for my daughter to take to college (LSU) so I do not want the car driven, but put on a truck (outside truck is fine) and transported. Ideal pick up date would be 8/7 and I would hope for a 5 day travel time, but 5-7 days is ok. With all the college costs and plane tickets for the family to get to Baton Rouge, I’m hoping that the transport will be affordable.
