Need to ship your car? Auto haulers are the way to go!
Your car is often the second most valuable asset you have, after your house. Because of that, deciding which auto haulers to trust to deliver your vehicle isn’t a decision to be taken lightly, so it can be a stressful undertaking.
Simply getting your car from point A to point B is a concern. But safety, speed, cost, customer service, reliability, and the average cost to ship a car are all important factors you’re having to evaluate when making your vehicle hauling choice.
Two Types of auto haulers
When you’re in the market to ship a car, during your search you’ll find two different kinds of auto transport companies: Car transporters with their own fleet of trucks, and auto transport brokers.
When you Google auto transport, you’ll most likely find more brokers than transporters.
Each type of auto haulers will get your vehicle transported, but which is best for you depends on what you’re looking for. It really does come down to your own individual needs.
In some instances, an actual car carrier may be the way to go instead of using an auto transport broker, while the reverse may be true in others.
The strengths of auto haulers vs. auto transport brokers?
When doing research online in auto transport companies you will find a mix of brokers and auto transport companies, but which should you choose?
A broker is a company that sells your auto transport order, whereas an auto carrier will ship your car themselves. There are pros and cons to each, but we’ve gathered this information to make it easier to decide which is right for you.
There are big differences between auto transport brokers and auto transport carriers
It’s important to know exactly what sort of service you’re buying, so do your homework before deciding if you want to use a broker, or a transporter. You’ll feel more comfortable if you know you’re dealing with a type of company that you can trust, so check out each company thoroughly before signing any contracts.
Research the companies you get shipping quotes from, and see what other customers have to say about the company’s performance before you decide which car delivery service you decide to use. A little work on the front end before deciding on who you want to transport your car can save you a lot of worry and headache on the back end.
The benefits of auto haulers
If you book your transport with an actual car transporter you deal with them directly. This eliminates the middleman.
The carrier company will be the people you speak to from the beginning, and who will take your car from point A to point B. You’ll have direct contact with the people you’ve entrusted with your vehicle.
So if there’s a problem with the pickup, you know exactly whom to call.
Any reputable transporter will offer an instant quote, which will allow you to compare apples-to-apples. The best part is, more often than not, the price quoted is the price you will pay.
Since you’re speaking directly with the company who will ship your car, the pickup and delivery dates can be more accurately estimated. This helps you plan and coordinate all the moving details so you can relax.
If time is of the essence and you need your car shipped as soon as possible, it’s most efficient to work with a car delivery service that has its own fleet of trucks.
A transport company will do their best to pick up your vehicle at your home or office and deliver it to your door at the destination point. However, depending on your neighborhood, street layout and local ordinances, this option isn’t always available.
In that case, the transporter may ask to meet you at another location which is safe and convenient for you with a parking lot large enough to accommodate the transport truck.
Meet a few of the folks who chose J&S because we’re primarily a carrier with our own fleet of trucks, not simply a broker.
A classic car guy, Will has shipped a lot of cars over the years. All this experience has left him with a less than favorable opinion of auto transport brokers.
“My experience was so bad that I wasn’t going to do it anymore. I was just going to haul my own stuff. When you’re paying for service, you’re looking for convenience.
Joe told me that J&S do have some broker functions based on where the pick up is and where it’s delivered, but they are hands-on the whole time. They talk to the driver; they follow-up with the driver.
The way Joe explained things, he put my mind at ease, and so I was willing to give him a shot. The shipment was quick, and it got here no issues. As far as customer service goes, Joe and the driver were fantastic.”
Jim and his wife were first time users of a car transportation service when they bought a 1963 VW Beetle in Boise, ID.
“We did an Internet search for car haulers. We were of course inundated with a number of emails from brokers, so just discounted them right off the bat.
My wife called J&S and spoke to the dispatch office. J&S said they had their own trucks but they did contract out for routes that they were not able to cover themselves and I was okay with that.
The whole interaction with J&S was very positive and at a very reasonable price, too. What most impressed about J&S was the customer service we received.
We were in contact with the actual driver of the transporter; he contacted us several times along the route and telling us where he was and when he would be arriving. It was very easy to arrange a place for the vehicle of that size to park and unload.”
There’s a common theme that starts coming up with people that have had multiple experiences shipping their vehicles – dissatisfaction with customer service received in the past. These usually are times when people purposefully avoid working with brokers…
“I had bought some of these vehicles before and had them shipped from Dillon, MT, through brokers. The communication was a little tough because the broker would dispatch the truck, but then I didn’t really have communication with the driver until he got to town and was trying to hook up with me.
I started on the Internet, found J&S, saw some good reviews online about them and called them up. The quote I got was very competitive, actually less than most of the other quotes that I got. Plus the fact that J&S is primarily a transporter and has their own fleet of trucks was a big part of my decision to end up going with J&S.
A lot of other people were treating Dillon like it was way out of the way, but J&S picked it up when they promised they would and got it delivered here shortly thereafter with no issues.”

The benefits of using auto transport brokersThe biggest benefit of using a broker for car shipping is the selection.
Keep in mind, a transport broker will not be the company that actually ships your car. Brokers will call carriers and sell your transport order to them. Their primary method of business is gathering quotes and going for the one that allows them to maximize their profits.
Because of this, the auto carrier who buys your order may or may not be able to fulfill your order for the fee they’re getting paid by the broker. It’s not unusual for brokers to have trouble finding a carrier willing to ship a car for the amount they’re offering.
This has led to many customers encountering long delays in pickup, if their car is even picked up at all. After the job is passed on to the car shipping carrier, most brokers step out of the picture.
You can trust that will never happen to you with J&S. Being a car transporter company that also has a broker’s license, we have the flexibility to give you the best of both worlds when you book your auto transport order with J&S.
We’ll ship your car on one of our own trucks if possible, but if we can get your vehicle to you quicker by brokering it, we will. But not before first communicating this to you.
Even if we end up using one of our partner businesses to ship your car, we’re still your point of contact from beginning to end. You booked the transport with us, and we’ll be the people you communicate with throughout the transport of your car.
While many brokers will take your email and farm it out to their subsidiaries, resulting in your inbox being flooded by solicitations from a slew of companies, J&S will never do that.
We’ll do the legwork for you and find the right car carrier for your transport. We won’t give out your email or contact info until we’ve secured a transporter for your order, and at that point, the only reason will be for the carrier to contact you to make pickup and delivery arrangements.
This is a small handful of the kind of feedback J&S receives from their customers
“I wanted to thank the J&S transportation team again for the efficient and organized delivery of my Toyota Land Cruiser. J&S was a pleasure to deal with, and it is so nice not worry about the transportation details!
I felt reassured that my car would make it from the time I placed the order to the receipt of the car. Chris, the truck driver, was fantastic and stayed in touch throughout the trip.”
“I wanted to send you a quick note to thank you and your staff for the superb service I received when shipping my 2013 Ford Expedition from Hometown Toyota in Ontario, OR, to Albuquerque, NM.
While I didn’t have the opportunity to work directly with your drivers, I would like to point out the great job that Roadmaster Towing of Miami, FL, did, getting it from Salt Lake to Albuquerque. They were very professional and kept me up to date on the delivery schedule.”

Here’s what some J&S customers said about why they shipped their vehicles instead of driving them themselves:
This was a car found after many a long search – Michael knew exactly what he wanted. But after the purchase, going to pick it up himself didn’t work logistically or economically.
“A friend of mine at a barber shop I often frequent told me, ‘Why don’t you have a transport truck bring it to you?’ So, I went online and the first site that came up was J&S. So I called and spoke to Joe.
I’ve never done this before. I was just going by faith. I guess what stood out most about having my car transported by J&S was Joe; his humility, and his professionalism.
Day of pickup, the driver, Nick, called me and said he was on his way. He said he was in the downtown area and, lo and behold, the downtown area is where I live! So I met Nick, he followed me to my parking lot, and he unloaded the car there; it was just perfect.”
For Dhaval, it ended up that shipping the car he bought from Virgina was cheaper or almost the same price as flying down there and driving it back himself.
“It was through a private seller,” says Dhaval. “I shopped online, bought the car online, and needed to get it delivered.”
“I decided to initially fly down there and drive it back, but I didn’t end up doing that. The main reason was the cost of me and my friend to fly down and all of the effort and the time that it would take to come back. It just wasn’t worth it.
I worked with Joe and I spoke with him on multiple occasions. I just liked his honesty; I had so many stupid questions because I had never shipped a car before and he was able to answer all of them.
I felt that I was getting quality service. I am taking six classes and I didn’t need the stress of shipping a car, and having it transported by J&S was really stress-free.”
