We ship cars from Oregon to Montana all the time given our long-standing relationships with auto auctions and car dealerships in Oregon. Our customers buy vehicles from these auctions and car dealerships and they hire us to transport the vehicles to them.
The primary car shipping hub in Oregon is Portland. It is the largest city in the state and two interstates intersect there (I-84 and I-5), making it an ideal location for car carriers. We also ship vehicles from Salem and Eugene, which are just south of Portland along the busy trucking corridor, I-5.
Another area in Oregon we ship from is Bend, although not nearly as much as we do from Portland, Salem, and Eugene because of it's relative remote location in Oregon.
The primary city we ship to in Montana is Billings, where our company is headquartered. Other cities we ship to regularly in Montana are Missoula and Bozeman. Another area we’ll occasionally ship vehicles to is Kalispell.
If you look at the map of Oregon and Montana, you see there isn’t a direct line from Portland to Billings because of the mountains. Car carriers typically drive east on I-84 and then head north on I-82/US 395/I-90 up to Spokane, WA. Then from Spokane, continue east on I-90 to Missoula, Bozeman, and Billings.

The population of Oregon is mostly concentrated in western Oregon in the Willamette Valley, which stretches along I-5 from Eugene in the south up through Salem and into Portland in the north. Those are your best cities to ship cars to and from in Oregon. Grants Pass and Medford located in southwestern Oregon on I-5 are great car shipping locations as well. Carriers are constantly going up and down I-5 so anything along that interstate is going to make for a relatively easy and painless auto transport relative to any other location in the state.
Redmond and Bend, located almost in the center of Oregon, are very popular car shipping locations but transports there are actually very difficult (i.e. usually requires more money and more time to complete the transport). It’s a difficult area because it’s surrounded by forests, is along a mountain range, and isn’t directly connected to any interstates.
Another challenging car shipping area in Oregon is anywhere along the Pacific coast, along Highway 101. Any auto transport to or from this area will usually require the most money and the most time to complete. If you look at a map closely, you’ll understand why. Everything along Highway 101 is completely isolated from the rest of the state of Oregon. There is nothing but forests in between Highway 101 and I-5, and there are few roads connecting Highway 101 to I-5. Carriers are not serving anything along Highway 101 on a regular basis so those transports always require carriers to go out of their way just to complete a single transport.

Shipping cars in and out of Montana is challenging for a couple reasons. First, take a look at the landscape of the state. The east side of the state is comprised of the Great Plains with sparsely populated towns and cities. Heading west from the Great Plains you run into the Rocky Mountains, and then you have the Cabinet Mountains and the Bitterroot Range in the west. Second, consider Montana’s weather. It has some of the harshest and longest winters in the country. You combine Montana’s challenging landscape and its weather, and you can understand why shipping cars to and from the state isn’t exactly a walk in the park.
The best car shipping locations in Montana are along the I-90 corridor from Billings to Bozeman, but most of the other cities along I-90, even up to Missoula aren't bad.
Other solid car shipping locations include those along I-15 from Helena down to the I-15 and I-90 junction.
Finally, those locations along I-94 from Billings to the North Dakota border are decent car shipping locations. This is a 250-mile trucking corridor that is heavily traveled by car carriers so locations along it such as Miles City and Glendive are all good locations to ship cars to or from.
The challenging car shipping locations in Montana are those locations 50 miles or more north or south of I-90 and I-94. The further away you get from those interstates, the more challenging the car shipments will be, meaning they will cost more money and will take more time to complete.
Other challenging car shipping locations in the state include those locations north of Helena and south of Dillon on I-15.
We are strategically based in Billings, MT. The two major trucking corridors in the state join and divide here, I-90 and I-94, so it is an ideal hub for car shipments to and from Montana. For the convenience of our customers, we provide free secured terminal shipping in Billings for pick ups and drop offs if needed.
