Auto Movers–the best choice for your car transport needs
Carriers & Brokers
Many auto shipping customers are one-time clients and have no experience with the auto shipping industry. If you’re a first time auto transport client, looking for reputable companies to transport your car can seem to be a daunting task. The internet is replete with advertisements for a seeming endless number of auto transport carriers and brokers. Prospective auto shipping customers should be aware of the difference between the two.
In a nutshell, an auto transport company handles the pick-up and delivery of your vehicle beginning to end, while a broker takes your auto shipping order and sells the job to one or more auto shippers.
Depending on your needs, there are pros and cons to both types of transport companies. A good auto transport carrier will have a personal contact you can ask questions of throughout the shipping process either on the phone or via email. Also, transport carriers have more control over pick-up and delivery time and assume more responsibility in the event of damage or an accident.
Auto transport brokers have access to more options for a quicker delivery, but you may not know the company who is actually shipping your car or how to contact them if problems arise.
Options beyond auto movers
Some people are in need of frequent auto transport. They often also use auto movers to meet their needs, but there are options other than auto transport companies.
One is to transport the vehicle yourself. Some folks purchase their own trailer and tow vehicle.
Often, these may be car collectors or enthusiasts who travel and display their vehicles at car shows or weekend racers who compete at area race tracks. Single-car trailers come in many styles and sizes to securely transport the vehicle.
Another option instead of hiring a car transport service to transport to move your car is hire a driver. Often, their customers are folks who don’t want to drive, don’t have the ability to take off work to drive it themselves, or don’t have the budget to have their vehicle transported.
Reputable agencies will screen the potential drivers and match them to the customer’s schedule and destination. The drivers are not paid and often must pay for their own gas, but they do get the free use of a car for their travels across the country. I don’t know about you, but I don’t like to have someone I know drive my car across town, much less have someone I don’t know take it hundreds of miles. They’ll probably change my radio presets, too.
Research before booking transport
As it turns out, auto transport companies are often the most efficient, safest and cost effective way to ship your car from one location to another. But you need to make sure the company your are entrusting your vehicle to is a trustworthy company.
Do your homework. Look at the USDOT/FMCSA site, see what the Better Business Bureau rates the companies you are looking at and see if there are any reviews on third party review sites. If all three of these resources show favorable ratings and testimonials, you’ve probably found a good auto transport company who will make your auto shipping experience as easy and hassle-free as it can be. Happy hunting.
