Vehicle transport services come in a variety of shapes and sizes

Auto transport brokers

The biggest advantage of using a broker to help you ship a car is they will give you a variety of companies they work with to choose from. Brokers often have a stable of companies under their umbrella to whom they will farm your auto transport order. Basically, that means the company you book your order with may not be the company that ultimately transports your vehicle.

Once your order is accepted by the transporter, the broker often steps out of the picture. If a problem comes up with the transport of your vehicle, it is on you to deal with the company the broker has assigned your transport to. Basically, a broker is a middleman who tries to match your order to a car transporter willing to do the delivery for the price the broker is offering. If the broker is diligent and vets the transporters, there usually isn’t a problem.

Car transporters

The other type of vehicle transport services you’ll commonly find are transporters. These are auto hauling companies with their own fleet of trucks. There are many advantages to using an auto hauler, but probably the main one is communication and personal contact with the company from beginning to end of the transport of your vehicle.

When you book your transport order with a transporter, you talk to the same company throughout. The carrier will be the people you speak to from the beginning and who will take your car from point A to point B. You will have direct contact with the people you’ve entrusted with your vehicle. If there is a problem with pickup, you know who to call.

Here’s a little inside tip: J&S is primarily a transporter with our own fleet of trucks, but we are also a licensed broker. This means we have the flexibility to accommodate any auto transport request you may have. We’ll do our best to ship your vehicle on our own trucks, but if we can transport your car quicker by brokering it to one of our partner companies we will, but not before first communicating this option to you. We pride ourselves on our customer service and straightforward communication.
