Shipping cars in and out of Montana is challenging for a couple reasons. First, take a look at the landscape of the state. The east side of the state is comprised of the Great Plains with sparsely populated towns and cities. Heading west from the Great Plains you run into the Rocky Mountains, and then you have the Cabinet Mountains and the Bitterroot Range in the west. Second, consider Montana’s weather. It has some of the harshest and longest winters in the country. You combine Montana’s challenging landscape and its weather, and you can understand why shipping cars to and from the state isn’t exactly a walk in the park.
The best car shipping locations in Montana are along the I-90 corridor from Billings to Bozeman, but most of the other cities along I-90, even up to Missoula aren't bad.
Other solid car shipping locations include those along I-15 from Helena down to the I-15 and I-90 junction.
Finally, those locations along I-94 from Billings to the North Dakota border are decent car shipping locations. This is a 250-mile trucking corridor that is heavily traveled by car carriers so locations along it such as Miles City and Glendive are all good locations to ship cars to or from.
The challenging car shipping locations in Montana are those locations 50 miles or more north or south of I-90 and I-94. The further away you get from those interstates, the more challenging the car shipments will be, meaning they will cost more money and will take more time to complete.
Other challenging car shipping locations in the state include those locations north of Helena and south of Dillon on I-15.
We are strategically based in Billings, MT. The two major trucking corridors in the state join and divide here, I-90 and I-94, so it is an ideal hub for car shipments to and from Montana. For the convenience of our customers, we provide free secured terminal shipping in Billings for pick ups and drop offs if needed.

When you look at the map of Idaho, it should be easy to spot the areas where shipping cars will be the cheapest and quickest. All the cities in southern Idaho along I-84/I-86/I-15 are your best bets. Those cities include the Treasure Valley cities of Nampa, Meridian, and Boise on the west, to Jerome and Twin Falls in the south, to Pocatello and Idaho Falls on the east. This is the primary corridor car carriers travel in Idaho.
Anything outside that primary corridor is going to add cost and time to your transport particularly those towns and cities in and around the Boise National Forest and the Salmon-Challis National Forest. Most of the state highways that service these national forest areas have length restriction laws that make it illegal for longer trucks to travel on them. State highways such as 75, 55, 21, and 3 have such restrictions. When we have auto transports in these areas where longer trailers are being used, we have to have our customers meet drivers on nearby highways that don't have these restrictions.
As you head to northern Idaho, your best shipping location is going to be Coeur d’ Alene. We do a lot of shipping in and out of Coeur d’ Alene for the various car dealers we have relationships with there. It’s right on I-90 which is a very busy trucking corridor so it’s an ideal shipping location. When you get up into the panhandle to cities such as Sandpoint and Bonners Ferry, transports can get challenging so expect increased costs and time to get your transport completed.
The other thing to keep in mind is that sometimes winters can be harsh in Idaho. Cold temperatures and snow can wreak havoc on transports. As a result, be prepared for potential delays during the winter months and sometimes increased costs as well because there may be fewer carriers willing to serve the state during the winter. For example, if you need to ship a car from Texas to Idaho in late January and it's a bad winter, it could take a day or two longer to secure a carrier than it would if you did that same transport in the middle of summer.
We have been shipping cars in and out of Idaho for 20+ years so we have the experience to handle any weather Idaho throws at us. We also have strong relationships with carriers and rollback companies so we can handle transports from remote areas in Idaho to populated areas such as the Boise, Nampa, and Meridian.
